Horst, John Whorley
September 4, 1899 - October 2, 1971

John Whorley Horst, 72, R.R. 3, Shippensburg died late Saturday afternoon at his home. Born Sept. 4, 1889, on R.R. 3, he was a son of the late John D. and Mary Whorley Horst. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Rowe Mennonite Church. His wife, the former Alice Elizabeth Frey, died in 1960.

Surviving are eight daughters and a son: Mrs. Glenn (Lois) Martin, R.R. 2, Chambersburg; Mrs. Milton (Ruth) Brown, Chambersburg; Mrs. J. Wilmer (Miriam) Lehman, Willow Hill; Mrs. David (Mary) Lehman, R.R. 4, Chambersburg; Mrs. Donald (Janet) Keener, State Line; Mrs. Dale (Thelma) Eberly. R.R. 2, Chambersburg; Mrs. Richard (Edna) Eberly, State Line; Mrs. Ray (Joyce) Landis, Allentown; Wayne L. Horst, R.R. 3, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Janice Horst, R.R. 3, the widow of Paul Horst. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Frank Shoop, Shippensburg, and Mrs. Silas Diller, Chambersburg: 38 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Rowe Mennonite Church, in charge of Bishop Amos E. Martin, Rev. Paul J. Martin, and the Rev. William J. Wadel. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call at the Van Scyoc Funeral Home at 7 o'clock this evening, and at the afternoon one hour prior to the service Tuesday.
